🕉️ Ekadashi Vrat Rituals
1. Dashami Preparation: Start the discipline on Dashami by eating a single sattvic meal without grains or salt.
2. Grains Prohibition: Rice, wheat, and pulses are strictly prohibited on Ekadashi. Consume only fruits, milk, and nuts (Phalahar).
3. Vishnu Sahasranamam: Chant the 1000 names of Lord Vishnu or listen to the Bhagavad Gita to remain spiritually aligned.
4. Parana (Breaking Fast): The fast must be broken during the specific "Parana Time" on Dwadashi (the next day) to gain the full spiritual fruits.
❓ Ekadashi Vrat FAQs
According to ancient texts, a demon resides in grains (especially rice) on this day. Scientifically, since the moon's gravity affects water levels, avoiding water-retaining grains like rice helps maintain mental and physical balance.
Yes. If you cannot do a complete fast, you can observe "Phalahar" (eating fruits and milk). Pregnant women, the elderly, and the sick are exempt from strict fasting and can simply avoid rice and grains.
Parana is the process of breaking the fast. It must be done within the Dwadashi Tithi. Breaking the fast during Hari Vasara or after the Dwadashi ends is considered improper.
Nirjala means "without water." It is the most severe form of Ekadashi where even water is not consumed. It falls in the peak of summer (Jyeshtha month) and tests physical and mental endurance.
Beyond spiritual merit, Ekadashi provides a fortnightly detox for the digestive system, increases focus, and helps in regulating the mind's desires.
