🕉️ Significance & Rituals
Chandra Darshan is the first sighting of the Moon after the New Moon (Amavasya). Sighting the crescent moon is considered highly auspicious and is believed to bring good fortune, wisdom, and mental peace.
Observers should offer Arghya (water) to the Moon God immediately after sunset. Reciting the Chandra Mantra or Chandra Ashtakam during the moon-sighting window is highly recommended.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions
It is calculated based on the time of moonset and sunset. The sighting is only possible for a short window (usually 45-90 minutes) after sunset on the day following Amavasya.
Moon sighting depends heavily on the local sunset time and altitude. Our table converts IST to your local time, but visual sighting also depends on weather clarity.
If you miss the window on the designated day, the spiritual significance is reduced, as the moon will be much larger and higher on the second day (Dwitiya/Tritiya).
Many devotees observe a partial fast (Upvas) from sunrise and break it only after sighting the moon and performing the evening puja.
Since the sighting window is very brief, the calendar alert ensures you are ready at sunset to view the moon before it sets below the horizon.
